If you read the blog a while back I did a story on the trend in American Law Enforcement of agencies going more and more to the black and white theme of car graphics. As we are in the process of taking delivery of 35 new 2010 Impalas, I noticed three are slated to be rolling out on sporting a familiar look.

These are tentatively slated to be assigned to the newly formed Street Crimes unit, so look for them soon!

What do you think?

I personally like the look. It’s professional looking, sharp and immediately noticible. The newer graphics that you’re starting to see all over the country, are cute and some are neat, but really, isn’t it more about being seen as professional or just plain seen, as in safety wise? There’s no mistaking a black and white paint scheme coming through an intersection. Also, in a time of sensitivity, it can also be interpreted as a coming together of our city and co-existence. I think every squad car on the department should go with that scheme.

Well put. I think there is a lot of ‘pros’ rather than cons in designating a B/W scheme as ‘the’ official scheme of Law Enforcement vehicles, for the reasons you mention. Thanks for the comments!
