Do you have unused/expired Prescription or Over The Counter Medications at home? Don’t dump it down the toilet!! Bring them the the upcoming Pill Drop, being held May 13th. 2010, from 8am until 5pm.

The Spring 2010 Pill Drop will be held in the parking lot of the St Joseph County Jail, 401 W Sample, in South Bend (adjacent to SBPD Station, just west of Main/Sample). Bring in all old or unused medications, and they will disposed of properly. Save the environment.

Please note- All liquid medications must be brought in their original containers.

This is an annual event sponsored by South Bend, Mishawaka, St. Joseph County Police and a senior advocacy group called Triad team up for a pill drop. You can drop prescription drugs off to be incinerated.

It only happens once a year because there are strict legal rules for disposing of the pills, so police presence is needed.

It’s not illegal to throw prescription drugs out or flush them down the toilet. But that’s not the safest way to get rid of them. Flushing down the toilet can potentially cause an environmental problem, and throwing pills out can allow a prescription drug seller or addict to get them.

The South Bend Medical Foundation has the incinerator that disposes of the pills. There are only three of them in all of Indiana.
